Humes supports major infrastructure upgrade at Burnham Military Camp
Humes is proud to support Isaac Construction in delivering a key component of a major New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) infrastructure project currently underway at Burnham Military Camp in Canterbury.
The project is part of the Defence Estate Regeneration Programme, NZDF’s largest-ever renewal and upgrade to military camps and bases nationwide which over the next two decades will ensure it is operating with modern, efficient infrastructure, buildings and facilities.
Humes are providing Isaac Construction with the following products for installation and are currently six months into the programme of works:
- Electrical infrastructure – approximately 27km of communications ducting and 70 concrete telco chambers manufactured by Humes Hornby
- Potable water reticulation infrastructure – approximately 21km of Marley PVC pipe plus isolation valves/flowmeters including laterals up to the envelopes of buildings
- Wastewater drainage infrastructure – approximately 32km of Marley PVC pipe plus wastewater meters
- Manholes – 218 Humes concrete manholes across the whole project
“We worked closely with the customer to understand how they would run the project and discussed any anticipated challenges – this meant our team could form and tailor ideas to bring value by saving them time and ensure the project runs smoothly,” explains Matt Hammond, Account Manager – Canterbury. “By bringing the right service promise forward, providing a detailed and high-standard quote, right through to the exceptional delivery from our distribution team, we have been able to showcase our skills at managing large infrastructure projects.”
Humes’ involvement in this part of the project was originally planned to span three years, but the scope of work has evolved to include extra works and a shorter programme.
“As with any large scale project things can change and we have demonstrated we are able to adapt to meet these changes and provide our customer with the support they need to get the job done,” says Matt.
